Aión Dúo

Aión Duo emerges as one of the most interesting young stable formations in the current national scene, with a profile characterized by three basic pillars: a commitment to new music creation, an interest in historically informed performance, and a focus on interdisciplinary projects. Currently, the duo is based in Basel, where its members are studying at the Hochschule für Musik Basel and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, having worked with musicians of the caliber of Claudio Martínez Mehner, Anton Kernjak, and Edoardo Torbianelli.

The duo began its journey in 2017 with the initiative of Claudia Reyes Segovia (clarinet) and Pau Fernández Benlloch (piano), within the framework of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where they worked extensively under the guidance of Harri Mäki and Kirill Kozlovski. Since its foundation, the duo has also received guidance from renowned professors such as Robert Levin, Charles Neidich, Jacques Zoon, and José Luis Estellés, among others.

Throughout their journey as an established group, they have been awarded in various competitions, including the First Prize in the XX CICMA Competition (International Chamber Music Competition of Arnuero - Ecoparque de Trasmiera), and have undertaken different concert tours covering significant venues such as the Manuel de Falla Auditorium (Granada), Musiikkitalo (Helsinki), Palau de les Arts (Valencia), Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia (Cerezales del Condado, León), Sala Máxima of the UGR (Granada), Teatro Atrium (Viladecans), Caja Círculo Auditorium (Burgos), Eutherpe Foundation (León), Jardí dels Tarongers (Barcelona), among many others.

Among their commitments, they have taken part in numerous festivals, such as Ensems (Valencia), Rafel Festival (Valencia), Aino Ackté Chamber Music Festival (Helsinki), SibA Fest (Helsinki), Manuel de Falla Chair (Granada), or the concert series of the Philharmonic Society of Burgos, among others. Likewise, their commitment to new music has led them to collaborate with composers such as Alexander Schubert, Voro García, José Manuel López López, David Moliner, or Claudia Cañamero, some of whom have dedicated works to them.

On the other hand, Aión Duo members undertake research on forgotten repertoires from the past and present, giving value and performing often rarely programmed music by composers such as Carl Loewe, Christoph Graupner, Ferrucio Busoni, or Francisco Guerrero. Likewise, they show a great interest in past performative practices through their commitment to historically informed performance, which they have studied under figures such as Andreas Staier, Pierre-André Taillard, Edoardo Torbianelli, or Lorenzo Coppola. Furthermore, their interest in interdisciplinarity has led them to explore different concert formats and create various spaces for dialogue between artistic disciplines, among them, Safo_fonías project, alongside actress Marina Alegre, premiered at Ensems 2021.

Taking their name from the Greek god Aión (or Eón, in other transliterations), responsible for representing the attributes of the eternal instant - that is, the mode of temporality inherently associated with music - the members of the ensemble aim to rethink the constantly changing aesthetic phenomenon that surrounds art made with sound and all the social and aesthetic ramifications it entails, through a full commitment to the values that define them as musicians, in the most complete sense of the word.
